TORC Press Year-In-Review

12/21/2017

Welp, 2017 was a massive garbage fire.  My life was awesome, though, so that was weird.  How was TORC Press this Year?  Let's find out, shall we?  Here's all the comics I made this Year:

7Worlds #4 - The Plot:  UltimoWorld-- The Hot Fudge Sundae Adventure Club, Octopus Jones, & the Death Moth fight a giant monster.  LostWorld -- Lilly Hood is introduced.  BrokenWorld -- The Yaegerwok is introduced (lotta introducing going on).  StoryWorld --  Foxy Loxy is introduced.  ToonWorld -- Quixote Coyote investigates the robberies, and runs into Panda.

How Was It? :  Not bad.  There's a crapton of new characters introduced.  I'm always a fan of that.  There's a Giant Monster Fight.  I like those quite a lot.  There's a lot of things that bug me about the issue though.  It's the last issue with the Watercolors on UltimoWorld, which was a nice idea, but were also pretty clunky (and very, very time consuming).  This is also the last issue with the Newspaper style strips on the ToonWorld stuff, which were also clunky, and never quite worked.  Decent enough issue, but not my strongest this Year.

7Worlds #5 - The Plot:  UltimoWorld --  The Clown (along with Octopus Jones and the Death Moth) battle the Clown's old arch-nemesis, Zarathon.  BrokenWorld --  The Walrus  & the Carpenter encounter VORPOL.  DolphinWorld:  The Dolphin Bros have to save Princess Pink from Pirate Parrots.

How Was It? :  This was my 24 Hour Comic.  It's way cool.  There's another Giant Monster Fight (love those).  Also, this probably has the best DolphinWorld story ever.  And considering that the Ultra Dolphin Bros stories are the most awesomest awesome that ever awesomed, that makes this the most awesomest story in the history of awesome.

7Worlds #6 -  The Plot:  UltimoWorld --  Octopus Jones is attacked by assassins, Death Moth is attacked by a Crab Monster, and the Clown is attacked by Death Itself!  Attacked!  StoryWorld --  Bearskin attacks a Giant Monster (you knew there had to be one of those). ToonWorld --  Quixote Coyote investigates the robberies (and eats pie).  DolphinWorld --  The Dolphins battle their arch-enemy, Goukii the Angry Monkey Cloud King.

How Was It? :  Uh, honestly, this one's a trainwreck.  I was starting to lose the thread of 7Worlds, and I got scared that it would fall victim to the 6 Issue Curse.  So, I cobbled this issue together, and it shows.  Some of the stories are only a page or two long, and they don't really have an arc.  If there's an upside to this issue (and there is), it is, as always, the Dolphin Bros.  The Dolphin Bro story is way cool, super-colorful, and fun.  Also, I get to take a swipe at the Orange Piece of Garbage.  That was nice.  Also, this was the start of the Quixote Coyote "Sunday Strips", which are a vast improvement over the Newspaper strips.

7Worlds #7 - The Plot:  UltimoWorld -- The Clown & co battle yet another giant monster (okay, maybe I'm running this trope into the ground).  SuperWorld -- Sol, Blue Athena, and the Puzzelor battle a Giant Robot (Ha!  Changing it up!).  LostWorld -- Pino is introduced.  BrokenWorld --  The Bandersnatch makes a deal with the WaspInAWig.    StoryWorld --  Rouletto is introduced.  ToonWorld  --  Quixote Coyote spies on the Wolf Pack.  DolphinWorld --  The Dolphins fight a bizarre new enemy... who seems to know them.

How Was It?  :  In many ways, this issue is similar to Issue 4.  Lots of Introductions, and Monsters, and whatnot.  Unlike Issue 4, I've smoothed over the rough edges, so this issue is very slick and clean and cool.  If there's a downside, it's that I may be repeating myself a little at this stage.

7Worlds #8  -  UltimoWorld --  The Space Gods fight UFOs.  SuperWorld --  The Super Saints face off against the Iron Empire in a race to find a mysterious artifact.  LostWorld  --  King Smooth makes his plans, and brings in his Mercenary Team.  BrokenWorld --  The Mock Turtle is introduced.  StoryWorld  --  Bearskin fights a monster.  ToonWorld --  Quixote Coyote gets captured.  DolphinWorld  --  The Dolphins go on a Trip.

How Was It? :  This is a good one.  We see the first piece of the Deathbringer, so that's cool.  King Smooth pops up twice, and manipulates two different worlds.  There's another new character introduction (Mock Turtle), but at the same time, there's some important plot development and world building there.  This also has my favorite DolphinWorld image to date, which, again, and I can't stress this enough, means a lot, because I frickin' looooove the Dolphins.

COSMINOMICON #1  -  The Plot:  Uh, see 7Worlds #6.  Basically, this is a reprint of the UltimoWorld stuff from that issue, plus some extra pages.

How Was It? :  This was kind of a mess, really.

COSMINOMICON #2  -  The Plot:  The Plot of the COSMINOMICON collapses into itself.  and the Artist himself is pulled into his own Comic.  Aleph the Artist is forced to confront himself and the Universe of his own Soul.

How Was It?  :  Well, on the one hand, this was an absolute trainwreck.  On the other hand, this may be one of the best comics I've ever made.  Huh.  Looking at it all, it was kinda the year in a nutshell.  It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.  Weird.
