In October of 1999 I started making comics. I called my "company" (hahaha!) Truth or Consequences Press. Then I shortened it to TORC Press. I never really stopped making comics after that. It's been 20 years, and I've made 176 comics to date. I haven't been particularly successful, but I've had fun. I'm free to do what I want, and that's cool. So, this week is my TORCIVERSARY Week. All week long, if you buy anything from the Online Store at torcpress.com, you'll get a Sketch of your favorite Monster. Before I forget, the schedule this week will be a little weird. Instead of a M/W/F schedule, instead we will be doing a Monday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule, because Thursday is Halloween. We've got Special Halloween Themed strips for Thursday, which is also our official Anniversary. Also, because I can't count, there will be a Dolphin Bros strip on Tuesday because I can't count. Patreon Supporters get cool stuff this Week as well. Here's the breakdown: $1 Supporters: You get a Free Sketch of your Favorite Monster. $5 Supporters: Above, plus an original Comic Strip (Quixote Coyote, Dolphin Bros, Cozmic Taco, or Spook Haus). $10 Supporters: All of the Above, plus an extra Sketch and a Free Comic from the Online Store. Patreon Supporters that haven't already, please let me know what you want in your Patreon packs. I'll be working on Sketches all week long, so y'know, no rush, but not no rush either. Speaking of the Online Store, we've got 3 new Books available in the Store. They're all 2 Bucks for 24 pages in B&W with a Color Cover (S&H is $2 per I believe). Quixote Coyote #4 - The latest collection of Quixote Coyote strips. Features Quixote training for the Challenge the Champ Competition, the pre-fight matches of the Competition, and the First Round of the Fight between Quixote Coyote and the Champ. It truly is some of the best Quixote strips, all jammed together in this issue. Dolphin Bros #3 - The next set of strips from the Dolphin Bros Daily Strip. The Dolphin Bros showdown with Big Daddy Shark reaches its conclusion, and the True Villain behind the attack on Otter Island is revealed. Also, the MOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!!!!! Cozmic Taco #2 - The latest collection of Cozmic Taco strips. Includes strips featuring Aleph, Death Moth, Octopus Jones, Riddle Bug, the Young Explorers, Toadei, AliceIsLost, and Zarathon. Cozmic Zaniness.
Anyway, I'd like to Thank All of my Patreon Supporters and Regular Readers for all of your Support through the Years. I wouldn't have made it to 20 Years without you guys. Alright, first off, let's just rip a bandage straight off, shall we? My TORCIVERSARY is coming up on October 31st, and there is absolutely no way I'm gonna have a new issue of "CROWN COMICS" or any other bonus exclusive comic ready to go by then. It's just not happening. To make up for it, $10 Patreon supporters will instead get a free comic of their choice from the Online Store and a (second) Bonus Sketch. I apologize for this, and yes, I am totally blaming it on my kid. Hahahaha!
So, to clarify, here's a breakdown of what Patrons get on my TORCIVERSARY this year: $1+ Supporters: A Sketch of their Favorite Monster. $5+ Supporters: A Sketch of their Favorite Monster plus an Original Strip of their choice (and Spook House/Town/Topia is now available as a choice!). $10 Supporters: TWO Sketches of their Favorite Monster, any one comic I currently have in Print, and an Original Strip of their choice. As usual, letting me know in advance what you would like in terms of Sketches/Strips is always a big help. And although it's never been an issue, obviously, since the Strips are Unique objects, if you have a specific strip you want, it is good to let me know which one you want in advance, cause it's first come first served on the strips. And as always, Thank You for your Support! Next Up: NEW SCHEDULE! So, I hate Break Week. It's a huge gap in the schedule, and it sucks. And it didn't even work that well (see my phoned-in "Cozmic Taco" strip for today to witness me running out of time/energy). On the suggestion of a Friend/Patron, I am going to move to a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule. Its a similar workload (6 strips in 14 days vs. 5 strips in 14 days), with a much shorter gap between strips (gap would be 1-2 days vs. a massive 9 day gap with Break Week). I can't guarantee I can always make my deadlines with this set up, but I think it will work a lot better for me. Anyway, I'm gonna try it out starting next week. Next item: As I mentioned in yesterday's "Spook" strip, I will be changing the name of "Spook House" due to the fact that there's already a comic with that name. I got suggestions from a couple of my Patrons on new names, and I definitely welcome other ideas. The name of the strip may shift for a few weeks as I try out different names. This will have no effect on the content of the strip. Next, Next Item: "Cozmic Taco" is my "For Me" strip (although I've gotten some great feedback from several people on it). I've decided to move the strip in a different direction, moving away from the single day, one off strips, and moving towards a longer narrative style, similar to Quixote/Dolphins (I also, eventually, plan to move "Spook" in this direction, once I'm done establishing character and world building). Before I move on, I'm going to need to put some puzzle pieces in place (hence the re-introduction of SOL in today's strip). When I started "Cozmic Taco", I was using the Tarot as a skeleton to build my Cast/Pantheon for the strip. Here is a quick break down: Heroes: Aleph (the Fool), Bellamei (the High Priestess), Octopus Jones (the Hanged Man), Death Moth (Wheel of Fortune), AliceIsLost (Strength), Puzzelor (the Moon), Captain 3-D (the Star) Villains: Zarathon (the Tower), Dr. Dendull (the Devil) Sages: Toadei (Temperance), Old One Eye (the Hermit) Gawdz: Miraculus (the Magician), Dogstar (the Chariot), The Lovers (um, the Lovers), Death (duh, Death), Justice (see a pattern here?), Space Baby (the Sun), Cosmic Titan (Judgement), Plant Mother (Empress), Father Ursa (Emperor), King Smooth (Hierophant) And Planet Ursa itself was the 21st Card, The World. With my new approach to the strip, I wanted a Full Roster of Action Heroes to draw from, so I "reshuffled" my Tarot Deck to build a Roster of 21 Heroes I could mix and match for fun, surreal adventures. Unfortunately, now I gotta spend the next few weeks introducing all the "New Cards". So that's what I'll be up to for a bit with Cozmic Taco. In case you're curious, here's the New Deck: 0. Aleph - The Fool (the Call to Adventure) 1. Miraculus - The Magician (Opener of Doors) 2. Bellamei - The High Priestess (Order from Chaos) 3. The Empress - Chief Justice (Rally to her Call) 4. The Emperor - Vagabond Prince (He Rules) 5. Stuntman - The Heirophant (Someone's gotta do it) 6. ? & ? - The Lovers (Opposites Attract) 7. Dogstar - The Chariot (Burning Force of Will) 8. AliceIsLost - Strength (Tis Beauty Tamed the Beasts) 9. ? - Hermit (Isolation brings Oneness) 10. Death Moth - Wheel of Fortune (Karma's Bullet) 11. ? - Justice (Evil will be Crushed) 12. Octopus Jones - The Hanged Man (The Legendary Hero) 13. ? - Death (It Waits for No One) 14. ? - Temperance (Can't We All Just Get Along?) 15. ? - The Devil (Needful Things...) 16. ? - The Tower (Pride Before the Fall) 17. Captain 3-D - The Star (A Light in the Darkness) 18. Puzzelor - The Moon (Illusions & Enigmas) 19. SOL - The Sun (Rejoice! The Sun Rises!) 20. ? - Judgement (Word from on High) 21. ? - The World (The Will of Ursa) So, that's 10 Question Marks to Introduce, so there'll be a few weeks of this. For those of you that are enjoying my interpretation of the Simon/Kirby Public Domain Characters, obviously you can see I have continuing plans for them as well. Also, even though they're not listed, I also have plans for my version of the Boy Explorers (aka, the Young Explorers) (consider them a Bonus Deck). Anyway, once I have all my Ducks in a Row, a brand new Adventure will begin! |
